Dublin City Schools Enrollment Growth – Forums Upcoming

There are 2 public forums remaining to discuss the District’s
enrollment growth and student housing needs.

These will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 21 in the lecture hall at Coffman, and 7 p.m. Aug. 28 in the Grizzell library. If you have questions or concerns about either option 1 or option 2 (see below), you should plan on attending one or both of these meetings.

Option one is building elementary 13 on Bright Road rather than in Jerome Village. Adding a new elementary school would require $1.9-million in annual operating costs. This option would result in widespread redistricting and take a minimum of two-years to complete. Additionally, this proposal only addresses elementary enrollment growth concerns.

Option two, which we feel is the most fiscally prudent and least disruptive, is repurposing the $14.5 million voters originally approved in 2008 for the construction of elementary 13. Instead of building elementary 13, and incurring the accompanying $1.9 million annual operating costs, the District could construct additions to five elementary schools, Jerome High School and possibly Grizzell Middle School.  The additions would be constructed in a shorter time frame
than building a new school. This plan saves significant annual operating costs, minimizes redistricting, and preserves the neighborhood school concept. This plan has the potential to resolve district-wide student housing needs at all levels for a minimum of four years.

“We are continuing to look at our options and plan for our District’s future,” said Superintendent Dr. Todd Hoadley. “These are important decisions and we want to be certain we are carrying out the will of our community.”
